Unit 1 Hythe continues to be one of the best stop-offs in Kent

Its shed-come-tap room is absolutely packed with character

Perched next to the beautiful Royal Military Canal in West Hythe, Unit 1 Ale House & Kitchen has been a ‘cene magazine favourite for years.
Its shed-come-tap room is absolutely packed with character, with locals and visitors popping in for its lively atmosphere and wide variety of locally-produced craft ales, lagers, Kentish ciders, wines, spirits and hot drinks.

Relax in one of its comfy corners and enjoy a speciality coffee and homemade brownie next to the log burner or, in summer, perhaps head out into the suntrap seating area for a refreshing cold drink as canoes and Sup boarders float by.

A regular stop-off for walkers (they offer water and free treats for four legged friends), it’s a 40-minute trot into Hythe town centre or just a 20-minute stroll to Port Lympne Wild Animal park.

From Monday to Wednesday they offer light lunches, while every Thursday they  serve their famous bespoke, homemade, stone-baked pizza.
On weekends (Friday to Sunday), the team brings in the best of local food vendors as pop-ups, serving delicious street-food from burgers to Greek, Mexican and even fish & chips, alternating every weekend with the option to eat in or takeaway. Unit 1 also offers vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, while there is also wheelchair access, a disabled toilet with a baby change unit.
