On the cliffs above the sea, the Walpole Bay Hotel is a beautifully preserved vintage getaway that manages to combine the style sophistication of a bygone era with the modern necessities of any stay on the coast.

Opening seasonally from March until October 31st every year, the Walpole is widely renowned for its charm and unique features which attract guests from far and wide - not to mention tv and film production companies!

Having only had two owners since 1914, the Waplole has been family run by three generations of The Bishop Family for more than 30 years.

One of few such buildings remaining in Margate, the hotel has 36 comfy en-suite rooms - most with balconies and all with stunning sea views.

From the moment you walk up its original marble steps, you will be transported into a glamorous world that has been enjoyed by film stars, musicians and regular ‘down to the coast’ tourists for decades. Its classic interior is punctuated by numerous features, take the 1927 Trellis Gated Otis lift, which still serves all five floors!


Surrounded throughout with the ambience of a generations past, eclectic artefacts and historic displays, donated by guests over the years can be found across the hotel as well as in its own Museum of Serendipity. There are even three galleries of Napery Linen Art depicting guests’ magical memories of their time staying at the Walpole.

There is a restaurant, ballroom, two lounge bars and tea rooms where cream tea is served on fine china while resident pianist Nick Capocci, tinkles the ivories at the weekends.


Relax on the flower bedecked veranda or take in a game in the pink snooker room. 

Hosting stars like Chris O’Dowd and Paloma Faith, the Walpole has built up a reputation for treating guests to a high-quality and totally unique stay.
