DISCOVER A WELL-KEPT LOCAL SECRET - WOOLTON FARM

Best known for producing multi-award-winning Kentish Pip cider, this family business has a lot more going on.

Tucked away between Howlets Wild Animal Park and Bekesbourne train station on the edge of Canterbury lies Woolton Farm.

Best known for producing multi-award-winning Kentish Pip cider, this family business has a lot more going on. From acclaimed English Wine production to The Barn serving up some of the finest produce selected from Kent’s producers, a jam packed festival and event programme, camping and glamping, wine and cider tours. Not to mention managing and farming 600 acres of Kent Countryside.

The Barn is located in the centre of the farm surrounded by a tall hedge, its huge gardens are the perfect place to sit back and relax with friends and family. The original structure is a 14th century thatched oak barn renovated with a bar, kitchen, shop and tasting area. The kitchen serves up a fresh and healthy menu focused around sourdough pizzas, dressed simply with high-quality local ingredients.

To drink, you are spoilt for choice with an amazing hand-picked range of local products including their own wines and ciders. You can camp on site very affordably with your own tent or motorhome or upgrade to one of the furnished Bell Tents located behind The Barn garden.

Woolton Wine punches well above its own weight receiving some of the most prestigious awards you can get, including International Wine Challenge (IWC) and Wine GB gold medals. The vines, planted in 2011, include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Bacchus. MD Sam Mount tells us: “Being small means we can focus on quality over quantity, we are blessed with a great location for our vineyard, its free-draining gravel over rich clay works exceptionally well. We aren’t driven by large customers so we have the freedom to create the right wines for each vintage. Our future plans for the wine are not all about expansion but more focused on quality, uniqueness and expressing the fruit we grow at Woolton.”

Last but by no means least, Kentish Pip makes a unique style of brilliantly fresh, fruit forward cider with much loved products such as High Diver, Craftsman, Skylark and Forager.  All production takes place at Woolton Farm just across from The Barn.  You can tour the heritage cider orchards and production facility weekly on their tours with generous tastings along the way.

If you haven’t visited Woolton Farm before it’s now open for the summer season April – September every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.
